Our Principal Solicitor, Tam Gill, qualified as a Solicitor in 2004 and has since specialised in mental health work. She has been an accredited member of the Law Society Mental Health Panel since 2004.

Tam was a Finalist for Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year – Mental Health in the LAPG2013 and 2016 Awards.
She has a wealth of experience of Mental Health, Criminal Appeals and Prison Law (including Parole Board work) and is a specialist in forensic mental health law and practice, working extensively with patients in High Secure and Medium Secure Hospitals.
A qualified clinical biochemist, Tam has previously worked on research relating to psycho-tropic medication.
Tam has been an active MHLA Committee member for many years, and was Chair of the Association 2016-2018. Tam has a particular interest in developing and delivering legal training (alongside MHLA colleagues and professional specialist guest speakers) to fellow mental health law practitioners.
Tam also regularly provides fellow professionals with training on mental health law issues, in particular in relation to restricted work, case preparation and Tribunal advocacy.
Tam is also a visiting lecturer at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (University of Sussex) and the Wessex Deanery, where she delivers lectures to medical students and qualified doctors of all grades on specialist aspects of mental health law and procedure.
Tam was appointed a Law Society Assessor for the Mental Health Accreditation Scheme in 2012.
Appointed LAA Peer Reviewer for Mental Health in 2016.
She also holds the post of Legal Aid Agency Independent Costs Adjudicator.
Tam has previously been engaged as a Mental Health Act Commissioner for the Care Quality Commission (CQC)
